About me
Heaton Psychotherapy provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy for children, adolescents, young adults (up to 25), and parents.
Located in the heart of Chillingham Road, Newcastle.
My name is Adrian Brooks, and from Autumn 2025 I will be welcoming referrals as a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (CAPPT), trained at the Northern School of Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy and accredited by the Association of Child Psychotherapists. I bring over 25 years of clinical experience, including extensive work within CAMHS, supporting vulnerable children and families through direct work and multi-disciplinary collaboration.
My particular areas of interests include working with looked‑after and adopted children, neurodiverse young people, and those facing emotional challenges related to attachment, identity, or trauma.
My practice emphasises developmental thinking and deep relational engagement—providing a consistent space for understanding, expression, and growth.
I offer weekly sessions, with flexibility for short- or long-term work, and I often work alongside parents, care‑givers, or professionals where helpful. I am committed to thoughtful, compassionate therapeutic collaboration tailored to each child and family’s needs.
A more detailed professional biography will be added shortly.

My approach and who I work with
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Sometimes called Child Psychotherapy) offers a safe, consistent space to explore thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to express. Rooted in the psychoanalytic tradition, it supports emotional growth, deeper self-understanding, and lasting change.
I meet with children, young people, young adults and parents regularly - sometimes once a week, and often more frequently when this is helpful - as part of building a therapeutic relationship where meaning and change can emerge over time.

Location

Frequently Asked Questions
Are missed sessions always chargeable?
Yes. Your child’s session time is set aside exclusively for them each week. If I need to change or cancel and no suitable alternative can be found, there will be no fee for that session.
Why different fees?
Before school and evening times are in high demand. Daytime appointments are offered at a reduced rate to support therapy being accessible for families who can attend within school hours.
Can we switch between daytime and evening slots later on?
You can ask—where possible I’ll help—but popular times are limited. Any change in time may affect the session fee.
How are parent reviews used?
Reviews help us think together about progress and practicalities around the therapy. Session content with your child remains confidential; we focus on themes and how best to support them.

Can I use zoom/teams/facetime for therapy?
The preference for therapy is always to be in the room, in-person. However, if this is challenging online use can be considered. I welcome discussion and consideration of this.
